Cover of Neuron, 2014 Volume 83, Issue 2: Maintaining proper level of centrally expressed microRNA molecules is essential for intact emotional response to challenge. The image depicts an “umbrella of microRNAs” protecting the individual from “rain” of life stressors and challenges associated with bad feelings and psychopathologies such as depression and anxiety. Issler et al. (pages 344–360) describe the microRNA fingerprint of serotonergic neurons and demonstrate the important of microRNA-135 for proper serotonergic activity, behavioral stress resiliency, and antidepressant efficacy.
